New Scratch, UK

13 Jul

by Ciaran Curtis

New Scratch is based on a musical group who existed in the 1960′s and 1970′s from Britain called the Scratch Orchestra. They were mainly concerned with making modern, highly experimental music, open to the public. For instance they once performed a piece where they hung upside down from a tree playing Clarinets in one of London’s public parks (and before you ask no my idea doesn’t involve hanging upside down, or climbing anything).

Essentially New Scratch involves three or four musicians improvising (and by this I mean play anything they want) in a sort of conversation to each other, across a public space.

30 Jun
Made in Canada

Poster by Jillian Parsons

Stockpile Artists Collective is kicking off Season 4 with your favourite Canadian tunes in Gerri Lynn Mackey’s “Made In Canada”.

Gerri Lynn is taking to the streets this Canada day dressed in a ridiculously patriotic outfit designed specifically to compliment her tuba. Mackey is particularly excited about this years performance of “Made in Canada” as it the third annual– making this event an official tradition. She has added a few news tunes to her musical repertoire and can not wait to surprise revelers with her unique brand of entertainment.

She’ll be jumping in on the Corner Brook Canada Day events, starting with the Flag Raising and heading on to the Community Walk, Pancake Breakfast, finally ending up at Margaret Bowater Park.

A successful weekend exhibition, CornerBrooker.com, and a new Flickr group

31 Aug

‘Harvest, 2nd annual indoor/outdoor exhibition/performance‘ was a success this past Sunday.   The exhibition invited spectators to participate in interactive performances, tour the grounds, watch some video art, and  to enjoy our more traditional forms of  art around the beautiful field and indoor gallery spaces of Full Tilt Creative Center in McIvers, NL.

CornerBrooker.com was at ‘Harvest’ and recently posted images of the event. HARVEST time for Stockpile

We have a Flickr Group. Stockpile Artists Collective has just started its own Flickr Group where people can post their own images of our events.  Please post your Stockpile related images and we will feature some of them on StockpileGroup.ca.

WAM! Again!

28 Aug

Hey, did you hear Jillian, Phil and Conor on Weekend Arts Magazine this morning? If not, you’ll just have to get up early tomorrow to listen before coming out for Harvest in the afternoon.

EDIT: We’re on right now! You haven’t missed it yet!

Stockpile Artists Collective- Harvest: 2nd annual indoor/outdoor/ exhibition/performance

Stockpile Artists Collective presents “Harvest: 2nd Annual indoor/outdoor exhibition/performance”, at Full Tilt Creative Centre, McIvers, Newfoundland on Sunday August 29th, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.

Featuring the work of the Stockpile Artists Collective membership, this appropriately named indoor/outdoor exhibition/performance will encompass the fields, beaches, barns and gallery areas of Full Tilt Creative Centre. An eclectic variety of work will be on display– from video to earth-based installations, paintings to collaborative performances– and we invite the public to come out and experience it all. Being that it is a traipsing about in fields sort of event, appropriate outdoor footwear is recommended, as well as bringing a reusable beverage container to avail of our water/information station. Reception to follow at 5:00 p.m. in the main gallery area.

Chalk/Walk hits the local Comic Con’s “Carnival Fun Day”

21 Aug

Newfoundland’s West Coast Con (NWCC) are having a fun day for a fundraiser and Stockpile member Shawna Warmington will be on site with Chalk/Walk. Shawna was asked by NWCC if she would do some chalk drawing at their event. We are not sure what they’re up to in Cyberzone but if you come out for Chalk/Walk be sure to check in on them too.

Time: 1 pm to 5pm.

EDIT: Tom from CornerBrooker.com dropped by on Sunday and here’s what he wrote about NWCC and Stockpile!
